Zinluq, The Mad Elementalist – A Dungeon World Monster

Let’s continue onto the next boss from Ragefire Chasm and make another Dungeon World monster inspired by World of Warcraft.  Shall We?

We already made Azheia, The Flame Hound, which was based on Adarogg, now let’s make one based on Dark Shaman Koranthal.

Zinluq wants to create the perfect elemental.  A being merged with fire, water, air, and earth with a kiss of the dark arcane.  Zinluq would fit well in a dungeon or mage tower alike.

Tips for the GM

Zinluq doesn’t have many hit points so make it hard for the melee classes to get in range.  Make them defy danger to avoid the barrage of elemental bolts in order to close the distance.  If they do get in range, then it’s a perfect time to drop an elemental vortex around Zinluq.  Also don’t let the casters/ranged just ping from range.  Zinluq has range too.  If it seems to easy for the party, invite a creature of the elements to the fun.

The Loot

Zinluq’s Cape Zinluq may be “mad” but safety is always a concern when dealing with the elements.  The cape can protect the wearer of 1d8 points of damage from elemental attacks.  On a roll of “1”, the cape is destroyed.
Stone of Twisted Elements This stone will sometimes feel warm or cold or trembling or may even attract a pleasant breeze.  Perhaps someone could teach you how to use it.

When you use the Stone of Twisted Elements, choose what element you wish to summon and roll +INT.  On a 10+, that element is summoned to do the desired elemental effect (within reason) or cause d10 damage to a foe.  On a 7-9, the same as above but chose one:

  • A second element is summoned with undesired effect
  • The element you summoned spreads way beyond your control
  • Take 1d8 damage (ignore armor) to keep control

On a miss, a swirling vortex of all the elements is called down upon your immediate area.  Good Luck!
